Sorry [livejournal.com profile] rick_day

I just sent this letter to the AJC because of the new ordinance Rick told us about.

Yet again I am amazed at the love our city shows for its voting citizens. The city council recently passed an ordinance basically banning anybody under 21 from being on the premises of a place that serves alcohol. I noticed no ordinance was passed to ban anybody under 21 from getting shot in Iraq. How these laws with obvious age discrimination have remained for so long is beyond rational thought.
We live in an era that by the time a person hits 21 they could have served over 2 full tours of combat duty on foreign shores, only to be welcomed home to a beer they cant drink.
We holler and scream that all of this war protesting is harmful to the morale of our soldiers, but truthfully we care nothing about their morale. We just use them to promote our cause. If we cared, we would buy them a shot and thank them for fighting for us. But instead we ban them from entering bars. Some heroes' welcome home we offer them isn't it?

everybody email
cwinslow@atlantaga.gov

she is the author of this ordinance.

I just sent her my earlier letter with the following ad on:

18 year olds are not children.. they are legal adults.
Do you worry about rather or not 18yr olds can vote? Pay taxes (including your salary)? Take a bullet in combat?

Flood her

I also emailed all of the members here:
cwinslow@atlantaga.gov, khall@atlantaga.gov, ilyoung@atlantaga.gov, narchibong@atlantaga.gov, Hshook@atlantaga.gov, cmuller@atlantaga.gov, FMOORE@ATLANTAGA.GOV, lmborders@atlantaga.gov, jmsheperd@atlantaga.gov, mnorwood@atlantaga.gov, hlwillis@atlantaga.gov

and the ACLU here:
info@acluga.org

I sure hope the ACLU will take up this case of age discrimination.. The exact same case that granted the right to vote during the Vietnam war to 18 year olds. We have precedent by the US supreme court on this.

Ps the actual ordinance is here:

the right to vote for 18 yr olds occurred during Vietnam because of almost exactly the same circumstances as what is happening now with drinking age and the new Atl city ordinance:
26th ammendment )
